Mandatory School Attendance
Attendance is mandatory in the State of Arizona.
State laws says in 15-803, C, 1., that a student is "Habitually Truant" if the student is truant or absent for at least FIVE (5) SCHOOL DAYS WITHIN A SCHOOL YEAR.
- The Academy considers 24 or more hours per week perfect attendance.
- If you attend school between 19 and 23 hours per week, the Academy considers you unexcused absent for one day.
- If you attend school between 14 and 18 hours per week, the Academy considers you unexcused absent for two days.
- If you attend school between 9 and 13 hours per week, the Academy considers you unexcused absent for three days.
- If you attend school between 4 and 8 hours per week, the Academy considers you unexcused absent for four days.
- If you attend school less than 4 hours per week, you are marked unexcused absent all week (5 days).
- If you attend school for less than 5 hours in a day, you are marked unexcused for that day unless, you have the full 24 hours at the end of the week.
- If you are absent because of illness or a family emergency you are given an unexcused absence. In order to change the unexcused absence to an excused absence you must do the following:
- Step 1: You or your parent/guardian must call the school the day of the absence stating the reason for the absence.
- Step 2: The day that you return from the absence, you must bring a note signed by your parent/guardian stating the reason for the absence and the date(s) of absence.
- Step 3: If you are 18 years of age or older, you may write and sign your own notes.
