English Language Learners
English Language Learners at SACA profit from the same benefits that SACA offers to all of our students – individualized instruction, one-on-one instructor interaction, and standards-sensitive coursework. Absolute ELL beginners are offered the opportunity to focus on the basics of English in a specially developed course which addresses both language learning needs and meets Arizona Academic Language Arts State Standards. While students are involved in this course, the opportunities for exposure to “real language” are exactly the same as for all of the other students. All of our instructors have completed the state-mandated SEI (sheltered English Immersion) training and are well able to engage the ELL students at an appropriate level.
First English/English for Success (1 credit). This course is only for students designated as an ELL student through the evaluation of the Stanford English Language Proficiency (SELP) test. This course is designed to enable a student to move in an accelerated manner from the absolute beginner (pre-emergent SELP designation) through the intermediate level (intermediate SELP designation). The course is a combination of one-on-one interaction and a state-of-the-art interactive computer program which includes advanced technology for voice recording and playback. The course will equip the ELL student to fully participate in and benefit from his or her other coursework.
