Chess Team 2005

The Southern Arizona Community Academy Chess Team had its first season this year.  Although SACA’s chess team finished in the lower third of the conference of ten teams, the director of region four, Gene Hendricks, lauded SACA’s performance for a first year team.  “This has been a great year for you guys,” Hendricks said at the last round robin.  “You really gave Catalina Foothills a run for their money.”  Catalina Foothills High School is last year’s national champions.  It was also this third round robin in which Danny Vose won a medal for the biggest upset of the tournament against St. Gregory’s first-seat player.  Vose was outranked by over 160 points.  “Next year should be awesome for you guys,” continued Hendricks, “You have a talented, young team whose game is improving quickly.”

The members of the team are Gregory Ksionda, Danny Vose, Marty Levine, Donald Tadlock, Trevor Hanson, Dan Lutrell, and Duane Bentley.  Steve Rosalik is the coach.
