Chess Team 2006

SACA’s chess team had its second official season this school year. This year’s chess team participated in three round robin tournaments at Desert View High School, Rio Rico High School, and St. Gregory’s College Preparatory School. Our core team and occasional alternates consisted of a broad range of students, some of whom had been playing chess competitively for several years and some who had never touched a chess piece before in their lives. While the team did not place well enough to participate in the State Competition, nearly all of our players more than once upset higher ranked opponents. It was truly a joy to watch this group of individuals compete together and bond.
