Odyssey of the Mind 2010-2011
Odyssey of the Mind is an academic competition, a team challenge, in which a team spends months working together to create a solution to a problem. Odyssey members, or OMers, are invited to participate because they have shown some form of creativity. This year we had an entirely fresh team. No one knew what to expect, and they performed in remarkable and outstanding ways. We are proud of the Southern Arizona Community Academy team for its dedication and creativity in designing a complex contraption to take the place of an alarm clock. The team impressed the judges and took 2nd place in the region and performed admirably at the state competition. Congratulations to our SACA OMers!
The Problem:
As Good as Gold...berg
Teams will present an uncomplicated existing item that is used in a simple and effective way to complete a real life task. The teams will also create their own solution, a device made out of an unnecessarily complex series of components that will perform the same task as the existing item. The performance will include an inventor character and a marketing plan/sales pitch for its creation.
