Ms. Gia Leonetti
Position at SACA:   Chemistry & Science Instructor
I earned two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Arizona: a B.S. in Molecular and Cellular Biology (with a minor in Chemistry and Mathematics) and a B.A. in Italian Language and Literature. I later received my secondary education teaching certification through the University of Phoenix.. I am currently working toward a Doctor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy while teaching science at SACA part time.
I spent seven years working at the University of Arizona in a research laboratory studying the cellular mechanisms involved in asthma and other allergic diseases. I also worked in a private cord blood bank as a stem cell processing technician. By far the most enjoyable job before joining SACA has been teaching Italian language classes at the University of Arizona and at Pima Community College.
I was born in Tucson and have lived here my whole life with the exception of a couple of years spent in Italy. My experience living abroad has enriched my life in many ways. While learning to appreciate different cultures, I gained a deeper understanding of how truly fortunate I am to be an American.
In my free time I enjoy photography, spending time with my family and friends, and practicing my Italian. I also love to travel whenever I get the chance.
Working with high school students is very rewarding. I see so much potential every day. I hope to help students comprehend that with hard work and determination they can—and will—realize their dreams.
